We’re saying goodbye to 2025!
In just a moment, we’ll be saying goodbye to 2025.
Alongside traditional New Year’s wishes, we want to pause for a moment and look at the numbers - collected over 12 months and 365 days - that tell the story of this year better than words ever could. And… they go far beyond what we’ve shared so far.
So, what did we achieve during this time?
Films created at WFS travelled the world and won recognition from both juries and audiences!
171 festivals and showcases in Poland and abroad, including Oscar-qualifying events:
→ Indy Shorts International Film Festival („From you”, dir. Jędrzej Gorski),
→ Beirut Short Film Festival („Neverlandex”, dir. Agata Kapuścińska),
→ IN THE PALACE International Film Festival („Rouge”, dir. Sophie Horry)
352 screenings of our films
Over 70 awards and distinctions - this year’s record holders:
→ „Qaher” (dir. Nada Khalifa),
→ „I Gaze at the Sky” (dir. Alexandra Strunin),
→ „Neverlandex” (dir. Agata Kapuścińska)
We were present at key industry events: the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, Camerimage, the Krakow Film Festival, the Warsaw Film Festival, as well as abroad - for example in Karlovy Vary (Dominik Mirecki with “Son of Happiness”, featured in Variety!).
Our shorts - both the latest productions and classics from previous years - were screened at the Elektronik Cinema as part of the “The New is Ahead” series, initiated by Zuza Juzek/Kopcińska, responsible for festival distribution.
7 themed screenings
32 student films
36 creators present at post-screening discussions
Around 500 viewers!
And how did this year’s Script Fiesta go?
As many as 23 500 participants
24 panels, workshops, and masterclasses
22 fully booked workshops!
2025 was also a year of opening up to the world and building new bridges. Which ones?
→ Joining the Erasmus+ programme
→ Cooperation with the New York Film Academy - our Acting graduates: Karolina Piecuch, Inga Żebrowska, and Alicja Armata are already studying at NYFA campuses in Los Angeles and New York!
→ Educational fairs: Japan, India, Azerbaijan
→ Masterclasses with international creators: Jon Moore, Dariush Derakshani
→ Screening of the film “One Sky Above Us” (a WFS production for the Polish Investment and Trade Agency) during EXPO 2025 in Osaka
In 2025, our School and the Elektronik Cinema became a very important hub for film discussions.
→ Original series by dr hab. Katarzyna Taras “On the art of cinematography at WFS” (with guests including Janusz Kamiński, Andrzej Bartkowiak, Piotr Sobociński Jr.)
→ Meetings “Film directing – how it’s made?” with Jarek Kupść, Jędrzej Gorski, Filip Pasternak
We also had the honor of co-organizing two Engaged Cinema Reviews of the Polish Film Institute!
Our university lives not only through films - what else happened within our walls?
→ Game-dev events: Game Jam, Made by Students: Game Expo, Pixel Heaven, meetings of the Game Dude student group
→ Theatre performances and concerts by our Actors: “Marathon”, “From Heart to Heart”
→ Numerous meetings with creators, industry professionals, and organizers of Poland’s most important festivals, such as the Krakow Film Festival and Młodzi i Film in Koszalin!
